Gospel Bites for Election day...

Here is the first of 2 Gospel Bites in preparation for the Federal Election on Saturday November 24th. All Saints will be hosting a polling station for the Petersham area and running a BBQ and tea and coffee stand throughout the day.

The scene: You're up at church helping out on the BBQ or making tea and coffee or just hanging around... A voter notices that you're part of the All Saints crowd and ceases the opportunity to say "Are you part of the church here? Nice BBQ." You say "thankyou. Yes I am." They continue "You guys had those big banners up for a few weeks about voting for Jesus as Lord, Liar, or Lunatic. What was all that about? Did you get any response? It must've taken you a while to make all that..."

Step 1: Acknowledge the questions and put the question of Jesus to them.
"Yeah that was us. It did take a while to make those banners, and we got some interesting responses - at least one person went to the trouble to tick the Lunatic box on the big banner which is an impressive effort... But how about you, what was your response to the banner? Who do you think Jesus is - Liar, Lunatic, or Lord?"

They respond "Tell you the truth I would've ticked the lunatic box myself."

(it'll interesting to ask why they would've ticked this box - what has lead them to believe Jesus was a lunatic?)

Step 2: A Gospel Bite from Mark 3:20-35
"funnily enough Jesus was a
ccused of being a madman by his own family, and some of the religious leaders of the day even accused him of being demon possessed because they couldn't explain the things they witnessed him do. And Jesus responded by pointing out the flaw in their argument. He wasn't mad because they were witnesses of the things he did - he actually could do miracles and they saw it. And he wasn't possessed either because 'why would Satan work against himself by driving out demons? It doesn't make sense that Satan would destroy his own kingdom'.

Step 3: throw the question back to them.
"But what about you? How does that story effect your view of Jesus as a lunatic?"

Of course this only one gospel bite, and you may be able to think of a better example to use, but either way, find the quickest route from the question to Jesus.
